Can I still use the old chrome syringe?

No. The Ear Care Guidance Document, which has been endorsed by The Royal College of Practitioners, The Royal College of Nursing, The Primary Ear Care Centre and The Medical Devices Agency describes the chrome syringe as obsolescent. 90% of litigation concerning ear irrigation has involved the chrome syringe.

Can I use Presept tablets instead of Chlor-Clean?

Yes. Presept are the same as Chlor-Clean, except that Chlor-Clean tablets contain a foaming anionic surfactant

For how long do I put olive oil drops in a patient's ear?

It is dependent on the nurse's clinical judgement. The average recommended time is 3-4 days

Can I syringe a child's ears?

This again depends on the nurse's clinical judgement. If it is really necessary, if the child is co-operative, if the parent agrees, and the nurse is fully trained and competent to do so, then go ahead.
